How to watch FIFA World Cup 2026 live in India

Jio set-top box, ZEE5, Fire TV Stick. I figured out all the options so you don't have to.

Back to all posts How to Watch FIFA World Cup 2026 Live in India — Jio, ZEE5 and Fire TV Stick guide

I spent about an hour going around in circles trying to figure out where exactly to watch the World Cup this year. There is so much confusing information online. So here is a simple breakdown of what actually works.

First things first

Who has the rights in India?

Zee Entertainment has the broadcast rights for FIFA World Cup 2026 in India. They launched a brand new channel called Unite8 Sports just for this. It went live on June 2, 2026. There are four channels in total.

Primary feed

Unite8 Sports 1 / 1 HD

Hindi commentary. Main match broadcast.

Secondary feed

Unite8 Sports 2 / 2 HD

English commentary. Alternative matches.

These channels are already live on Tata Play, Dish TV, Airtel Digital TV, Sun Direct and over 500 cable operators across India.

Option 1

Jio set-top box

This is the easiest and cheapest way to watch if you are at home. Open the JioTV+ app from your Jio home screen. On the main page you will usually see a "Watch FIFA Live" banner during match times. Just tap that and you are in.

If you don't see a banner, go to Live TV and scroll to the Sports section. The Unite8 Sports channels are somewhere in the 400 to 500 range. You can also hold the voice button on your Jio remote and say "Unite8 Sports" out loud. It will find it right away.

Good to know

Adding Unite8 Sports to your Jio STB plan costs only around Rs. 9 to 11 per channel per month. Since this goes through the cable feed and not the internet, there is no buffering. The picture quality is also more stable than streaming.

Option 2

JioTV mobile app

This one confused me at first. Unite8 Sports is not listed in the normal JioTV mobile channel guide. You have to go through ZEE5 on your phone instead. Here is what to do.

1
Download and update ZEE5

Get it from the Play Store or App Store. Make sure it is on the latest version before you try anything.

2
Log in with your Jio number

If your Jio plan has ZEE5 bundled, logging in with your mobile number will activate the subscription on its own. You won't need a separate password.

3
Go to Live TV inside ZEE5

Tap the Live TV section and scroll through. You will see Unite8 Sports 1 HD and Unite8 Sports 2 HD. Tap either one and it starts playing.

Option 3

Fire TV Stick

Yes, it works on a Fire TV Stick too. Download the ZEE5 app from the Amazon Appstore. Sign in and go to Live TV. Same experience as the phone app but on your TV screen. This is a good option if you don't have a Jio set-top box at home.

The part everyone gets confused about

Will your current plan actually cover the World Cup?

Probably not. And this is where a lot of people get surprised. Zee has kept the live FIFA matches separate from the regular ZEE5 subscription bundles. Even if your Jio plan says "ZEE5 Premium included", that does not cover the live matches. When you tap on a live game it will show a popup asking you to upgrade.

FIFA World Cup 2026 access by plan type in India
What you have Cost FIFA live?
Unite8 Sports on Jio STB (cable channels) ~Rs. 9 to 11 per month Yes
ZEE5 bundled through a Jio plan Already in your plan No
ZEE5 FIFA 3-month tournament pass Rs. 799 one time Yes
ZEE5 Annual Premium plan Rs. 1,699 per year Yes
Worth checking

If you have a Visa Platinum or Classic debit or credit card, there is a discount of up to 30% on ZEE5 plans. That brings the Rs. 799 pass down by around Rs. 210. Not a lot but still something.

My take

Which one should you go for?

Best value

Jio set-top box

Cheapest by far. No buffering. Solid picture quality. Best choice if you are watching at home on your main TV and don't need to switch devices.

More flexible

ZEE5 app

Watch on any device from anywhere. Has full match replays right after the game. Costs Rs. 799 extra for the FIFA pass but worth it if you travel a lot or want the replay option.

One real problem

The match timings

Most kick-offs are between 12:30 AM and 9:30 AM IST. This is the main headache for Indian viewers this time around. The tournament is in the USA, Canada and Mexico so we are stuck with night and early morning matches.

If you are buying ZEE5 specifically to watch everything live, think honestly about how many 3 AM matches you will actually stay up for. The good thing about ZEE5 is that full match replays go up right after the game ends. So you can sleep normally and watch it in the morning without anyone spoiling the score for you.

The Jio STB is better for live viewing. Replays on the cable channel depend on what the channel decides to air and when, so you can't control that. If you want to watch at your own time, ZEE5 is the better option.

If you are mostly at home and just want the live experience on a big screen without spending much, stick with the Jio STB. It is the simplest and cheapest setup.

One last thing. There are a lot of YouTube videos and websites claiming to show FIFA matches free or telling you how to get the channels on unofficial apps. Most of them are clickbait or low quality streams that cut out mid-match. Stick to the official ZEE5 app or JioTV+ on your set-top box. It is not worth the frustration during a match you actually care about.
